Our museum is primarily concerned with the history of the unique landscape of the Fens and its drainage. It is housed in the original pump house (dating from the 19th century) and enjoys a picturesque setting on the river bank, which has moorings for visitors arriving by boat. It is also on the Hereward Way for those enjoying a walk out of Ely. The original building has been extended to provide modern visitor facilities.
The Museum is a registered educational charity, a volunteer organisation which has to raise the funds to meet everyday running costs and to finance projects. New volunteers are needed to help at events, open up the museum on non-run days and to serve tea and coffee to visitors.
The Museum has been extended with the assistance of grants from The European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development, The Trusthouse Charitable Foundation and The Headly Trust together with local business and personal donations.
The Museum will be open from Easter Saturday, April 8th 2023 on Saturdays, Sundays and Mondays until September 25th 2023, from 12.00 to 16.00.
